I work as both a counsellor and coach with clients across the ages. I have five main groups of clients that I focus on - professionals, men's mental health, children, adolescents, and parents.
Professionals: Using a solution focussed coaching model, I support busy professionals to overcome challenges, be they at work, home or within. I work with clients to develop clear goals and ways to achieve them. I believe that each individual is the foremost expert in their own life and my role is to help draw out the strengths within. Men’s Mental Health: Times are changing and more and more men are seeking support and are willing to talk about the challenges they face that interfere with their mental health. From work challenges, career changes, struggling with your role in life or even a “mid life crisis”, I use humour and masterful listening skills to help identify the hope wrapped up in the concerns and challenge. Together with the client, we work to build the groundwork for what is next.
Children: The initial focus when working with a child is that they feel safe, so building trust is always where we start. Areas of specialization include school refusal, anxiety, building and maintaining friendships, developing social skills and empathy.
Adolescents: Young adults need to feel heard and understood. I support students as they find healthy ways to manage the emotions, pressures and trials of school, family and peers. Some of the challenges that I have supported clients with include self-harm, suicidal ideation, anxiety, anger, organization, friendships, coping with stress and maximizing performance.
Parents: Before working in private practice, I worked as a school counsellor as well as a teacher. I also have two children of my own, which means that I bring a unique perspective and understanding to the challenges that parents face on a daily basis. I work with parents to create understanding and build positive relationships within the parental unit as well as with children, and to help develop systems to help to smooth the rough edges of home life.
